Polished concrete explained is any concrete surface, new or old, that is ground and polished to a high shine much like a mirror finish.
A polished concrete floor does not require any material other than a concrete slab. Due to this fact, the process is far cheaper than that of conventional methods. Polished concrete is extremely durable which makes it far more resistant to high foot traffic and industrial machinery. Once sealed it also offers a stain resistant and non-slip surface. This makes polished concrete less vulnerable to damage and it therefore does not need to be replaced.
“Other than the obvious benefits of a polished concrete surface, it is a low maintenance option and if the floor is done correctly, there will less drag on any industrial cleaning equipment. Polished concrete is a great alternative for anyone who may suffer from allergies, asthma or other respiratory issues as it won’t harbour dust, dirt or allergens” explains Brian. “Economically, a polished concrete floor also offers high light reflectivity, which will save energy and reduce artificial lightening requirements that are needed by institutions, show rooms or places that need a bright and clean image.”
Polished concrete is also versatile in that it is available in different colours with a variety of different finishes. This lends itself to different markets, be it industrial buildings, commercial buildings, residential homes, showrooms, hospitals or hotels. “There is a perfect solution for every project with polished concrete, but with every floor, it all depends on quality of how efficiently the floor is laid” concludes Brian.
