Shot blasting is the perfect solution in preparing a surface for the application of various floor solutions such as overlays and coatings. It is ideal for creating a slip resistant finish where improved traction is desired for safety. Apart from this, shot blasting is also suitable for the stripping of paint, rust, marine growth, and mill scale from steel.
The Blastrac GPX 10-18 shot blaster is a mid-size ride on machine that is capable of achieving up to 150m² per hour, blasting a 250mm wide path. Currently this machine is being used at a pharmaceutical facility to remove latent from a newly laid concrete floor. Shot blasting was the preferred method for preparing the surface for this project due to its nature of opening up the pores in the concrete. It was critical to ensure that this part of the surface preparation was performed correctly as it would affect how successful the epoxy would penetrate and bond to the concrete surface. If the surface is not prepared correctly, any overlay or coating that is applied to the surface will delaminate.
Besides the benefits listed here, shot blasting is an exceptional, cost effective and environmentally friendly choice when it comes to projects that have time constraints with limited budgets.
