CT INDUSTRIES and Diamond Products partnership creates latest technology terrazzo look decorative floor

More than 700 m² of decorative floor has recently been successfully laid by industrial and commercial flooring technology specialist Cement Technology Industries (CT INDUSTRIES), which made use of a wide range of equipment supplied by Diamond Products – a leading specialist in the manufacture, assembly and sale of diamond tools and equipment for industrial- and commercial applications.

CT INDUSTRIES’s Michael Pretorius states that a substantial amount of grinding work and substrate preparation had to be completed in order to prepare the surface before installing the new 10 mm thick terrazzo look cement-based flooring product. In order to achieve this and the final finishing of the floor, CT INDUSTRIES made use of the Diamatic range of BMG-435-WD Planetary Floor Grinders, BGS-250 Edge Grinders and BDC-1330 Dust Collectors.

“This specific type of floor is very hard, and to get to the type of finish we wanted, we started working with Diamond Products’ experts to find a suitable solution. We went through numerous combinations before finding the one that worked best, and Diamond Products displayed unwavering commitment to researching and developing a solution to our exact needs,” he says.

Pretorius indicates that work on the project began in April 2015, when CT INDUSTRIES started with preparation work to level the surface and prepare the substrate, before casting the 10 mm floor, which was subsequently ground down by 2 mm to expose the aggregate, which was then finally polished to provide a modern decorative finish.

“We worked closely with the team from Diamond Products to select the perfect set of floor grinding and polishing blades to give us the perfect combination of blade composition and speed to cut into the flooring product without dislodging aggregate in the process. Diamond Products has exceeded our expectations in terms of equipment and service supplied,” he continues.

Diamond Products Director Brian Clark explains that the BMG-435-WD grinder is the ideal machine for this project, as it is designed for surface preparation, concrete grinding, and cleaning and removal of coatings. “This grinder is designed for dependability and offers ease-of-use while providing efficient, cost-effective results with very little environmental impact.”

The Diamatic BGS-250 single-disc concrete grinder used for this project is designed for small to medium horizontal surface preparation applications, as it is easy and comfortable to handle, with low vibrations. Clark highlights the fact that all Diamatic grinders ensure a dust-free operation when connected to the appropriate Diamatic dust collection system, such as the BDC-1330 in this case.

The metal frame BDC-1330 is robust enough to handle the toughest operating conditions, while ensuring optimal performance and suction. “In addition to being a health and environmental hazard, dust also creates additional clean-up work. The Diamatic BDC-1330 dust collector enabled our team to grind all day without releasing any dust. This is a major benefit on so many levels,” adds Pretorius.
