Arix technology does it again!

Ultimo Seal specialises in subcontracting applications such as; core drilling, concrete cutting, ferroscanning, and dowing. The Johannesburg-based company is currently undertaking two cutting and coring projects at a Standard Bank branch in Sandton and at Rosebank Mall, by making use of the Diamond Products range of ARIX wall saw blades and core segments.

Ultimo Seal managing member Michael Mascarenhas points out that the company was contracted by WBHO Construction in April 2013 to complete core drilling and concrete cutting at both sites. The Standard Bankproject involves the cutting of basement slabs for the preparation of new lift shafts, which is a first for Ultimo Seal.

Diamond Products director Darryl Gray explains that ARIX Diamond technology aligns diamonds in an almost grid-like system, thereby allowing for consistent drilling and sawing speeds. “In industry standard tools, the diamonds are mixed randomly throughout the surface, which results in significant wear-and-tear, owing to the fact that different areas of the surface carry inconsistent workloads.”

Gray indicates that with the alignment of diamonds in separate rows, ARIX Diamond technology ensures that each diamond carries precisely the same workload, which ultimately extends the lifespan of the tool, and allows for quicker and more accurate drilling or sawing.

Mascarenhas highlights the fact that the unique design of the ARIX core segments has saved the company up to ***per cent on re-tipping costs. “ARIX Diamond technology ensures that the cores are far more durable, which substantially reduces the need for constant re-tipping. This not only minimises maintenance costs, but also reduces costs associated to unnecessary downtime too.”

According to Mascarenhas, Ultimo Seal has been a Diamond Products customer for the past five years, and has successfully completed a number of high profile projects during the course of 2012 and 2013 by making use of ARIX diamond products. These projects include concrete cutting and coring at; Nicolway Shopping Centre, Virgin Active Nicolway and Melrose Arch.

“In addition to supplying a reliable, efficient and cost effective line of equipment, Diamond Products also provides a high level of after sales service and technical support, which has proven to be exceptionally valuable to Ultimo Seal over the years,” he continues.
Looking to the future, Mascarenhas conclude by adding that he is confident that Ultimo Seal’s coring division has the greatest potential for growth, due to the considerable amount of regeneration work that is currently taking place across Gauteng in particular.
