Diamond products arix technology makes for light work

Specialist cutting and coring contractor Q&A Cutcore has successfully cut light wells in the centre of a down town Johannesburg building from the roof down, using Diamond Products impregnated Arix saw blades and core drills to cut out the concrete slabs inside the beams, preserving the integrity of the building’s structure. The final demolition works have been completed, with construction work due to start in June.

Precast façades with small windows had been attached to the exterior of the offices, but this design severely restricted external light from penetrating the building. Q&A is removing alternating precast façades to install bay windows for outward facing flats, while the lightwell will provide light, ventilation and services to the inner apartments.

Diamond Products helped the Q&A to design and develop new tools, specifically the reaming bits that were needed, and advised on tool specifications to perform the demolitions within deadline.
