Wooden floors refurbished like new

Hard wooden floors are certainly one of the most popular flooring solutions when it comes to its aesthetics as well as the atmosphere of warmth and character it creates. Even estate agents find it a great deal easier to sell a property that is fitted with wooden flooring than with any other flooring options.

However, hard wooden floors are not exactly ideal when it comes to the maintenance and restoration of the surface. Over time due to high foot traffic, ineffective cleaning and possible damage caused by furniture, a wooden floor loses its appeal and wears unevenly.

It is not all doom and gloom as there are a number of solutions available to restore and re-profile a hard wooden floor.  By using the correct tools and equipment, you are not only able to re-profile the floor to a perfectly flat surface, but also to restore the floor back to its original state.

Diamond Products were recently requested to participate in an experiment to clean and restore a wooden floor and were highly impressed with the results.  The wood floor that was worked on has seen quite a number of years’ of traffic, therefore the surface was uneven and dirty. In order to restore the surface back to its original state, Diamond Products offered a solution to achieve this. By using the Blastrac BMG-435 planetary grinder combined with a series of various grits of sandpaper, the floor was sanded to expose the wood surface.

Similar to the standard concrete grinding process, sanding the floor would follow a series of grits from a coarse to fine grit to achieve an exposed wood surface. Once the surface has been cleaned and dried completely, a wood applicator would be applied. In this case, a polyurethane based sealer for wood surfaces will complete the process, by nourishing and enhancing the grain, as well as protecting the surface against spills.
